Our Story …

#2Steves are really pleased to announce that we're got a place in Shitbox Rally 2022 Spring!! This year, all the teams are driving their shitboxes from Mackay to Darwin in October 2022! Steve Gainer and Steve Fletcher are mates from 'back in the day' sharing a passion for snow skiing, adventure travel and working through some big winters in the Colorado Mountain resorts in early 2000's.

..........................................................................................................................................

When you tap on DONATE NOW above all money raised goes directly to Cancer Council fund raising pool on we give, not to the #2Steves personal team budget to participate.

#2Steve's have set an initial target of $10,000 and appreciate your generosity giving to the important work they do for the Cancer Community.

These funds go to the Cancer Council and we are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity. The fundraising is the hard part, so any donation you can give is greatly appreciated. Please make sure to follow our progress via this page and the blog posts on facebook.

The Adventures of 2 Steves - Shitbox Rally

............................................................................................................................................

Our story we are armoured with a Holden Commodore VE Wagon with 300,000km on the clock. Equipped with a standard 3.6L V6 GM donk assembled in Australia this beast has a few check engine lights singing on the dash, and a recent left side swipe on the M5 in Sydney from its previous owner making it the perfect candidate.

Steve Fletcher sourced the wounded car during the 2021 Sydney Lockdowns and bought sight unseen with just a few photos taken in Menai by its owner. Its owner, also named Steve, somehow got a local safety slip in Menai, but this third Steve didn't really have much else to leverage on value. No buyers due to lockdown, no rego left, a damp interior and the felt roof lining falling onto the seats. Not to mention a tonne of dings, scratches and hail damage on most panels, so a deal was made for $400 drive it away no more to pay!

Fletch updated the new rego separately with Service NSW online thanks to a safety slip about to expire, and exchanged $400 with old owner Nicknamed 'The third Steve' electronically in September 2021. The car stayed parked up in Southern Sydney outside 'The third Steve's' house until Fletch could travel more than 5km down the road, retrieving the VE 6 weeks later in October. It has since had a few panels bashed out and gradual shakedown to the teams HQ on the Gold Coast where some old HG Holden plates in QLD rego have been revived.

At the shed a local neighbour commented 'That car's got more hits on it than Elvis'. With a little laugh we explained its future use joining a Shitbox Rally which created a garage of laughter and a perfect gesture for the car. 'Well who needs a perfect timing belt adjustment, reverse sensors, a catalytic converter, or straight panels for that. Forget the warning lights on the dash... Just Send It!!'.

Introducing the 'Chute Box' a Classic Commodore Wagon set for the Savannah Way in Far North Queensland the 2Steves are ready to join the Shitbox rally for some fun and adventure across the top end.

The Chute Box survived it's first shakedown Sydney to Gold Coast in February 22 when the border re-opened. We look forward to bringing the spirit of the rally and it's principles to the road and raise money for a good cause that helps change lives and assist the many stories experienced about Cancer. The Chute box will get themed in a blue camo and mountain wrapping and possibly even some old snow skis on the roof that will look just right for the theme and appropriately ridiculous in the tropics.

Shitbox Rally is the largest community lead fundraiser for the Cancer Council in Australia and is now in its 13th year. Part of the participation is that all teams have to raise a minimum of $5,000 but most teams raise well above this amount as you can see with the 2022 Spring rally target set at $2,500,000 plus.

When you tap on DONATE NOW below all money raised goes directly to Cancer Council fund raising pool on we give, not to the #2Steves personal team budget to participate.

Here's what I'm doing …

Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.

The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.

Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

  • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
  • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
  • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
