COVID UPDATE - ITS BACK ON, THIRD TIME LUCKY
Scotty turned 50 last year!! The milestone event prompted him to create a "bucket list" and a car rally across "outback Australia" was at the top of the list. Luckily Davie was already on the waitlist for the Shitbox Rally and the stars collided...... We submitted our application and it was accepted!! That is how an Englishman, living in Sydney, and a Scotsman, living in Melbourne, come to be driving a car (bought for less than a grand) from Mackay to Darwin in aid of the Cancer Council in Australia. Of course, the slightly longer version is that COVID has cancelled two rallies and finally we are all systems go.
We will be doing serious training for this. We are setting up our lounge rooms to simulate sitting in old vinyl car seats while pounding the 3,000 kilometres of corrugated roads that we will encounter, breathing in red bull dust and listening to Dire Straits on the station wagon cassette recorder...... It is for these sacrifices and the great charity that we are supporting that we ask for your support and sponsorship. We have raised $6,175 to date, thanks for those that donated first time round and we have opened this page to top it up. Please give what you can.
The Event: Shitbox Rally 2020 (Spring)What it is: Grab your best mate. Buy a car for less than $1,000. Paint it up to look cool. Get it to Mackay somehow. Drive from Mackay to Darwin with all the other Shitboxers. Have heaps of fun on the way. Make new mates. Sell the car at auction for the charity. Celebrate with a cold lager..... Fly home. Bore everyone with how much fun you had.
The Car: BMW 318i 1997 called "Aunty" after an extremely generous benefactor who is very excited about this adventure and gave a generous donation towards it.....
The Charity: The Cancer Council in Australia
The swashbuckling rally drivers: Scotty Hadfield & David Anderson
Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.
Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.
Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.
Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.
$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:
These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
