Our Story …

We are back for our second SHITBOX RALLY!!

That's right, we made it from Hay (NSW) to Adelaide via William Creek (SA) in March 2022!! Our 43 year old Mercedes 300D "Goldie" was the ONLY DIESEL car in the rally, and by far the coolest ride!!! We had our challenges, day 2 loosing our vacuum system which meant weak brakes and harsh gear changes, but "Goldie's" heartbeat never gave up, and we covered over 6,000km round trip safely in just 10 days.

In case you missed our last Shitbox Rally, this is a little about us, our beloved Shitbox "Goldie", and the reason we are doing the Shitbox Rally again.

We're a couple of great mates (Brent & Jono) from Avalon on Sydney's Northern Beaches!

Our team is again named "BAGHDAD CAB", as we will be driving a 1979 Mercedes 300D, a car used as a taxi throughout much of Europe, Africa and the Middle East, still to this day!

We found our gold Mercedes on Gumtree sitting in a paddock on a 55,000 acre goat farm in Bourke! We paid $800 for her! After cutting the rust out, welding up the floors and a few other panels, servicing the motor, we completed the Shitbox Rally in March. Now we need to jack up the sagging back end and repair the damage caused by rocks to the exhaust and floor, and maybe put some bigger wheels on in preparation for the QLD and NT outback in October!!

All Shitboxs' must be 2WD and have cost less than $1,500.

In October, we'll be driving across the dry and red dusty dirt roads of outback QLD and Northern Territory, from Mackay to Darwin via Hells Gate in Shitbox Rally Spring 2022!!

The Shitbox Rally is the largest community lead fundraiser for the Cancer Council in Australia and is now in its 12th year having raised nearly $30 million. Part of each teams participation is that they each raise a minimum of $6,000 with most teams raising well above this, with an overall target for the rally set at $2,500,000.

These funds go to the Cancer Council and we are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity. The fundraising is the hard part, so any donation you can give is greatly appreciated. Please make sure to follow our progress via this page and the blog post below.

So ANY donations you can spare, big or small will be greatly appreciated, so tell your family and friends to dig deep and help stop cancer in its tracks!

Thank you for your support and keep an eye out for our upcoming fundraiser events!

Here's what I'm doing …

Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.

The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.

Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

  • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
  • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
  • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
