After 2 false starts in 20 & 21 due to COVID, Tony and Ron are pumped to be taking part in the Spring 2022 Shitbox Rally, an epic fundraiser for the Cancer Council. This year we will be going on an incredible journey driving from Mackay to Darwin.and after loosing our Tarago (Gus the Bus) to a blown head gasket we are on the lookout for another Shitbox to take us on the journey.
The Shitbox Rally is the largest community lead fundraiser for the Cancer Council in Australia and has raised over $24 million since its inception over 10 years ago. Thanks to all those who have supported us to date and WE HAVE RAISED $8000....OUR TARGET IS TO MAKE IT TO $10,000.
Like most of us, we are all touched by cancer in some way and our journey is dedicated to Tony's parents Pat & Ginna and my Uncles Charlie & John and mate Chiz and all those who we have lost or are fighting this wretched disease.
We are of course well prepared for the Rally !! ......... heaps of enthusiasm, a sense of adventure BUT no mechanical or rally experience whatsoever - so I am sure we will be in for some fun and pure adventure on the road to Darwin. Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.
