THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL OUR SUPPORTERS :)
This year, all the teams are driving their shitboxes approx. 3,500kms from Mackay to Darwin. The route includes a lot of back roads and will certainly be a challenge!
We have selected a 1997 Hyundai Excel as our humble chariot, (nicknamed OLGA) which after much deliberation we concluded was the most reliable shitbox car we could think of.
OLGA has a 5 speed manual transmission mated to a whopping 1.5 litre EFI petrol engine. With this, she is able to punch out around 65kw (or did back at the factory in South Korea) of raw front wheel drive power. OLGA will be auctioned off by Manhiem in Darwin at the finish line (assuming she makes it!). The money from the sale will also go to the Cancer Council.
We are aiming to raise at least $7,500 for the Cancer Council.
I don't think there is anyone who hasn't been touched by this disease, whether through a friend, family member or work colleague. Let's face it, it's a shit disease that so far we unfortunately don't have the best treatments for. We should do what we can to support better research and hopefully we can finally find a cure. Your donation would be really appreciated, even if it is only small!
We are also looking for sponsors for our team (tax receipt can be provided). We can put business stickers on the car to help promote your business as well. A win for everyone. Please get in touch with one of us if you would like to find out more.
Shitbox Rally is the largest community lead fundraiser for the Cancer Council in Australia and is now in its 13th year. Part of the participation is that all teams have to raise a minimum of $5,000 but most teams raise well above this amount as you can see with the 2022 Spring rally target set at $2,500,000 plus.
We promise there will be lots of photos and videos of the trip and Barney is pretty handy with a drone so we expect to get some epic footage.
Please make sure to follow our progress via this page and the blog post below.
Cheers,
Barney and Nathan (shnoz)
Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.
Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.
Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.
Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.
$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:
These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
