Hi friends,
Karen and Anthony are excited to be taking part in the Spring 2022 Shitbox Rally and the challenge of navigating their way from Mackay to Darwin via Hell’s Gate Roadhouse.
While it offers to be a once in a lifetime experience, an inescapable fact is we have both felt the consequences of family members and friends being diagnosed with cancer. So, this is our way of helping combat an insidious disease. Please know that all donations go directly to the Cancer Council and we personally pay for the cost of our participation.
Some may see us as the odd couple but we think it’s a winning combination! Anthony can change the tyres and set up the accommodation each night. Karen, on the other hand, is a naturally gifted driver and her staunch determination and no-nonsense attitude will be invaluable at night time at fending off snakes and staring down crocodiles.
Keen to represent our sponsors and supporters as best we can and be there at the end to strut across the finish line, we have researched traveling extensively by studying the adventures of Clark Griswold.
By his own admission, Anthony isn’t thrilled by the prospect of the heat and humidity of the top end but was heard to say “what eves”. Meanwhile Karen’s first question was “do you think we will have internet coverage or wifi?” she was last seen lobbying Telstra for more towers in the outback. We are sure her corporate prowess will come in handy … for something?
How you can help.
You can make a donation or be a team sponsor or……………….alternatively, maybe pool together donate $500 or more and we will let you paint a door or panel the colour of your choice and or place a personal dedication on it. And hey a multicoloured car has got to make it easier for the rescue team to find us right?! So no camouflage patterns thanks!
In the lead up to the great race, we hope to do some fun activities to raise money for this important cause but please note all donations must go through this page. We can’t collect accept money directly.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.
Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.
Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.
Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.
$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:
These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
